Latin School Partnership

The 2 Li'l Fishes Meal Program is proud to announce the formation of a partnership with the prestigious Latin School preparatory academy in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood.

During the initial phase of the partnership, more than 100 Sophomores will be coming to 2 Li'l Fishes to fulfill their educational Community Service requirement. Program Coordinator Isaac Barrantine has set three goals for the students: Education, Participation and Socialization. They will learn first hand from the personal and professional experience of 2 Li'l Fishes Staff and Guests about the day-to-day realities of problems like homelessness, addictions and discrimination; and about what programs like 2 Li'l Fishes, and society as a whole, are doing about them. Among other tasks, students will assist our Staff in meal preparations, service and cleanup. And, they will spend time with our Guests before, during and after meals playing games, talking about topics of interest and providing a breath of fresh, youthful air for those who too often must deal with the same small circle of people 24 hours a day.

According to Isaac, "The Latin School partnership is a wonderful opportunity for us to influence the development of the minds and attitudes of young people who will be, as adults, the movers and shakers in governments, corporations and communities around Chicago and the nation. They will learn that people who face difficult challenges in Life are not defined by the difficulty itself but by what they, and all of us, do to alleviate the problem. And they will learn about the importance of their personal contribution of time, energy and spirit in helping neighbors in need to make positive changes in their lives, break the cycle of dependency upon welfare and handouts and become contributing members of the community."

Isaac has asked all participating students and their parents to view our web site, and has extended a personal invitation to all of the parents to visit 2 Li'l Fishes and see what their children will be involved with. We believe wholeheartedly that this partnership will be fundamental to the future success of 2 Li'l Fishes.
